What is the difference between a planner, a stylist and a coordinator?
A planner manages the whole project: budget, venue, suppliers, timeline and logistics. A stylist designs the look, florals, furniture and tablescapes. An on-the-day coordinator executes plans you have already made. Many businesses offer all three as separate packages, so be clear about which service you are actually buying.
Do event planners need a licence in Australia?
No licence exists for event planning itself. Related activities are regulated though: alcohol service needs licensed caterers or venue liquor licences, staff serving drinks need RSA certificates, and amusement rides and marquees have their own safety rules. A good planner manages these compliance pieces and carries public liability insurance.
When should I book an event planner?
For weddings, nine to eighteen months out is typical, since popular planners and venues book a year ahead for peak spring and autumn Saturdays. Corporate conferences usually need three to six months.
