Enter your state of employment, years of continuous service, ordinary weekly hours, and your hourly or weekly pay to estimate your long service leave entitlement in weeks and dollars. Uses each state and territory's statutory accrual rate, 8.6667 weeks after 10 years in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, TAS and the ACT, and 13 weeks in SA and the NT, and shows the qualifying and pro-rata thresholds for taking or being paid out LSL. Rules differ by state, award and industry portable-leave scheme.
LSL is set by the Act of the state where you work.

Set by legislation: Long service leave is governed by each state and territory's LSL Act and changes only when that Act is amended, figures here are the current standard statutory rates. SA and the NT accrue 13 weeks at 10 years (about 50% more than the 8.6667 weeks elsewhere); VIC and the ACT let you take leave from 7 years. Awards and industry portable-leave schemes (construction, cleaning, security) can differ. Always check the Act for your state.

Long service leave (LSL) rewards a long period of continuous service with the same employer with a block of paid leave. Unlike annual leave, LSL is not set by the national system for most employees, each state and territory has its own Long Service Leave Act, so the accrual rate, the qualifying period, and the pro-rata rules all differ by jurisdiction.
| State / Territory | LSL after 10 years | Accrual / year | Can take from |
|---|---|---|---|
| NSW | 8.6667 weeks | 0.86667 wk | 10 years |
| VIC | 8.6667 weeks | 0.86667 wk | 7 years |
| QLD | 8.6667 weeks | 0.86667 wk | 10 years |
| SA | 13 weeks | 1.3 wk | 10 years |
| WA | 8.6667 weeks | 0.86667 wk | 10 years |
| TAS | 8.6667 weeks | 0.86667 wk | 10 years |
| NT | 13 weeks | 1.3 wk | 10 years |
| ACT | 8.6667 weeks | 0.86667 wk | 7 years |
Worked example (NSW). An employee with 10 years of continuous service on $1,500 per week (a 38-hour week at about $39.47/hr) accrues 10 × 0.86667 = 8.6667 weeks of LSL, worth 8.6667 × $1,500 = about $13,000. The same service in South Australia would accrue 10 × 1.3 = 13 weeks, about $19,500, because SA accrues roughly 50% more.
You can usually take long service leave once you reach the full qualifying period, 10 years in most states, but 7 years in Victoria and the ACT. Below that, a pro-rata entitlement may be paid out when you leave, but only on a qualifying termination, for example illness, incapacity, domestic necessity, reaching retirement age, death, or the employer ending your employment other than for serious misconduct. The pro-rata threshold is generally 5 years in NSW and the ACT and 7 years in the other states. A plain voluntary resignation below the qualifying period usually does not attract a pro-rata payout.
Long service leave is legislated and changes only when an Act is amended, so always check the current Act for your state. Some industries, construction, cleaning, contract security and others, run portable long service leave schemes that carry your service between employers and have their own accrual and payment rules. This calculator gives an estimate based on the standard statutory accrual rate for each state; it is not a substitute for advice on your specific circumstances.
Long service leave (LSL) accrues on your years of continuous service at a rate set by your state's LSL Act. In most states (NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, TAS, ACT) the full entitlement is about 8.6667 weeks (roughly 2 months) after 10 years, an accrual of about 0.86667 weeks per year. South Australia and the Northern Territory are more generous at 13 weeks after 10 years (1.3 weeks per year). Estimated pay = accrued weeks × your ordinary weekly pay.
After 10 years of continuous service you generally get 8.6667 weeks (about 2 months) of paid long service leave in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, WA, Tasmania and the ACT. In South Australia and the Northern Territory you get 13 weeks after 10 years. Victoria and the ACT also let you take leave earlier, from 7 years of service.
Under the Long Service Leave Act 1955 (NSW), you are entitled to 2 months (8.6667 weeks) of paid long service leave after 10 years of continuous service with the same employer, plus 1 additional month for every further 5 years. A pro-rata entitlement is payable on termination after 5 years if you resign because of illness, incapacity or domestic necessity, or if the employer ends your employment (other than for serious misconduct).
Under the Long Service Leave Act 2018 (Vic), long service leave accrues from your first day and you can take it after 7 years of continuous service. The accrued amount works out to roughly 8.6667 weeks at 10 years (about 1/60th of the period of continuous service). Victoria reaching the right-to-take at 7 years (rather than 10) is one of the main differences from NSW.
If you have reached the full qualifying period (usually 10 years, or 7 in Victoria and the ACT), any accrued but untaken long service leave is paid out in your final pay. Below that, a pro-rata payout may apply, but only on a qualifying termination (for example illness, incapacity, domestic necessity, retirement, death, or employer-initiated termination not for serious misconduct), generally after 5 years in NSW and the ACT or 7 years in the other states.
Yes. Each state and territory has its own Long Service Leave Act, so the accrual rate, qualifying period, and pro-rata rules differ. The biggest differences are SA and the NT accruing 13 weeks at 10 years (vs 8.6667 weeks elsewhere), and VIC and the ACT allowing leave to be taken from 7 years instead of 10. Some industries (construction, cleaning, contract security) have portable LSL schemes with their own rules. Always check the Act for your state.
Sources & methodology
This calculator applies each state and territory's statutory long service leave accrual rate, about 0.86667 weeks per year of continuous service (8.6667 weeks at 10 years) in NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, TAS and the ACT, and 1.3 weeks per year (13 weeks at 10 years) in SA and the NT. Accrued weeks are multiplied by your ordinary weekly pay to estimate the dollar value. LSL is set by legislation, not a financial-year table, and rules differ by state, award and industry portable-leave scheme. Figures are computed in your browser, nothing you enter is stored or sent to a server.
