Workshop settings beyond the labour rate

Default service intervals, workshop specialisation, monthly targets, and the owner-only choices about what prints on a customer service record.

Vehicles, then Workshop Settings, holds six things. The labour rate has its own article; these are the other five.

The page is free. One section is restricted, and that is called out below.

Default service intervals

Two fields, time in days and distance in kilometres. Together they decide when a car appears on the service due list and when its owner gets a reminder.

Set them to what your book actually runs on. Six months and ten thousand kilometres is a common pair, but if most of your work is fleet utes doing high kilometres, a time-based interval will fire far too late.

An individual vehicle can carry its own override, set when you log a service, so a capped-price car on a manufacturer schedule does not have to fit your default.

Workshop specialisation

Pick what kind of shop you are: general workshop, mechanic, panel beater, smash repair, auto electrical, tyre shop or detailer. It tunes the wording and the emphasis you see around the workshop screens. Nothing is hidden from you by choosing one, so pick the closest fit and move on.

Monthly targets

A monthly revenue target and a monthly jobs target. They drive the target progress shown on the Month-end summary page. They do not appear on the workshop dashboard, which shows the month's actual figures without a target beside them. Leave both blank if you do not work that way; nothing else depends on them.

What prints on a service record

The service record is the document a stranger reads, often a buyer deciding whether to trust a car's history. Three choices control it:

  • Show the business number. Whether your ABN prints.
  • Vehicle owner's name. How the owner appears on the record, or whether they appear at all. Worth thinking about: a printed service history that names a previous owner in full is handed to strangers.
  • Show the verify link. Whether the printed record carries a short block pointing a buyer back at the live page for that vehicle, so the history can be checked rather than taken on trust.

This section is owner and admin only. Everyone else can see the choices and cannot change them, and the section will not save for them. That is the same rule the rest of the product applies to document appearance, because this is copy that goes out under your business name.
