An app is not showing in my sidebar

The reasons an app you expect to see is missing, in the order worth checking, from not installed to a business type with no marketplace at all.

You went looking for a screen and it is not there. Work through these in order.

It is not installed

The most common answer. Open App Marketplace and check the Installed tab. Apps are opt-in, so nothing appears in your sidebar until somebody adds it. See add an app from the marketplace.

Your business is set up as a tax agency

A tax agency business has no App Marketplace entry in the sidebar at all, so there is nothing to open and no add-on rows to find. Your business type is on Settings, then Business Profile. If that is not what your business is, change it there.

The app is installed but its trial has ended

A lapsed app does not disappear. Its row stays in the sidebar, greyed out and badged Trial ended, and opening it shows what it costs and how to turn it back on. If you are a viewer you get the lock symbol and no badge. See what happens when an app trial ends.

The app has no screen of its own

Not every app adds a sidebar entry. Some add to a page you already have rather than opening a new one, and some are listed in the catalogue ahead of being built. Installing one of those adds nothing to your sidebar, and that is the app rather than your account. If you installed something expecting a new section and got none, tell support which app and we will tell you which of the two it is.

Somebody removed it

An owner or an admin can remove an app, and when they do it goes for everybody. On a trial the screens go straight away. On an app that was being paid for they stay, working, until the period already paid for runs out, and go on that date. Your records are still there either way. Check the marketplace, and check with whoever else has owner or admin access. See remove an app, and your data.

It is gated

Some apps have a condition in front of them and will not install until it is met:

  • Tax Practice Suite needs every user in the account to have two-factor authentication set up. The install tells you how many people still have not.
  • Google Reviews is part of the Growth plan.
  • The website apps each sit at the plan that pays for them: the Website Builder and Blog from Starter, Shop, Members, Site Audits and Search Console from Plus, and Multi-language, A/B Testing, Webhooks and Approval Workflow from Growth. Their tiles offer an upgrade instead of Install until your plan reaches them.

An app that is not offered in your country is not listed at all. See app prices and currency by country.

You do not have the role

Only an owner or an admin can add or remove an app. If you are a member, an accountant or a viewer, the marketplace is visible and the install button will not work for you. Ask whoever owns the account.

About the Add-ons group

If your sidebar has an Add-ons group, those rows are apps that suit your trade and are not installed, each badged Install. Choosing one opens the App Marketplace. Search for the app by name from there.

It is installed and still missing

Sign out and back in once. A newly installed app changes what your sidebar is allowed to show, and a session opened before the install can be holding the old answer.

If it is still missing after that, tell support which app and which account, and we will look at the installation record directly.
