Removing an app does two separate things: it stops the billing, and it decides when the app's screens leave your sidebar. Those are not the same moment.
How to remove one
Open App Marketplace, open the installed app, and choose Uninstall. Only an owner or an admin can, for the same reason only they can add one.
What happens to the billing
This is the part worth understanding, because getting it wrong costs real money.
- If the app is still on its free trial, the subscription is cancelled immediately. It can never convert into a charge.
- If the app is already being paid for, the renewal is stopped and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. You do not forfeit the month, or the year, that you bought.
We check the live state with Stripe at the moment you remove it, rather than trusting what our own records last said. A stale record is how somebody loses a prepaid year, and that is not a mistake we are willing to make twice.
If Stripe cannot be reached at that moment, the removal is refused and you are told, rather than leaving you with the app gone and the subscription still running. Try again shortly.
When the screens actually go
They follow the money, not the button.
- On a free trial, or with no live subscription. The screens go straight away and the marketplace tile goes back to offering the app.
- On a paid app mid-period. The screens stay, unlocked and fully working, until the period you paid for runs out. The marketplace still shows the app as Installed and it still appears on your billing breakdown. On the day the period ends the app leaves your sidebar quietly, with no lock screen and no prompt to pay, because you asked for it to go.
So if you remove a paid app and everything is still there, nothing has gone wrong. You are using what you bought.
What happens to your data
Nothing is deleted. Whichever way the removal goes, the records you created with the app stay in your account. Invoices, jobs, contacts and bookings are all yours regardless of which app produced them.
The removal is written to your account's audit log, so there is a record of who did it and when.
You do not have to remove an app to stop paying for it
If a free trial with no card simply runs out, the app locks. You are not charged and nothing is deleted, and the app is one button away if you change your mind. See what happens when an app trial ends.
Removing is the right move when a paid app is renewing and you want that stopped, or when you want a trial closed off the books straight away.
Removing a bundle
Remove the bundle itself, not the apps inside it. The apps inside a bundle are granted by the bundle and carry no charge of their own. See what is included in an app bundle.
Adding it back later
An app you removed is installed again from the App Marketplace, and its screens come back with it. What does not come back is a fresh free trial, as how an app trial turns into a charge explains.
One case is worth knowing before you remove anything. If you remove an app while it is on a no-card free trial, and then want it back after those fourteen days have passed, the marketplace refuses the install, and there is no locked screen to subscribe from either, because you removed the app rather than letting it lapse. Tell support the app name and we will sort it out. If you are undecided, letting the trial simply run out is the safer option: that leaves the Subscribe route open.
Check the billing page afterwards
Settings, then Billing & Plan shows the monthly breakdown. An app you removed while it was on trial is gone from that list straight away. A paid app you removed keeps its line until the period you paid for ends, which is the point: you still have it, and no further charge is coming. See what your apps are costing you.
