This is the moment most people ring about, so here is exactly what happens.
The app locks, it does not vanish
When a free trial with no card on it runs out, or a fixed term reaches its end, the app stops being usable. It does not disappear from your account and it does not disappear from your sidebar. Its row stays where it was, greyed out, with a Trial ended badge beside it.
What you see when you open it
The app's own screen, inside your normal dashboard, showing a panel that tells you:
- which app has lapsed
- that everything you recorded is still on your account, that nothing has been deleted and nothing is being charged
- what it costs, both a month and a year
- a Subscribe button carrying the same monthly, yearly and fixed-term choice you had at install
- a link to see all add-ons
Subscribing turns the app back on exactly as you left it: same records, same settings, same place in your sidebar.
Your records are not deleted
Nothing created with the app is removed when it locks. Invoices, jobs, contacts, bookings, inspections and everything else stay in your account whether the app is on or off. Turning the app back on is not a restore, because nothing was lost.
If the app came inside a bundle
The panel names the bundle and offers the bundle, not the single app. An app included in a bundle has no price of its own and cannot be bought on its own, so selling it to you separately would be selling you something that does not exist. See what is included in an app bundle.
If you are a viewer
In the sidebar you get a lock symbol on the row instead of the Trial ended badge. Open it and you get the same panel with the same price. What is missing is the Subscribe button, and in its place a line asking you to have an owner or an admin resubscribe. Only an owner or an admin can pay for an app.
If the panel says it could not load the price
Occasionally the panel cannot read the price. When that happens it drops the Subscribe button rather than showing you a figure it is not sure of. Reload the page: the price usually comes back on the second try. If it does not, tell support which app, rather than trying to install it again from the marketplace, which refuses a spent trial.
A card-backed subscription does not do this
If you added a card during the trial there is no lock at the end of it. The subscription simply starts. See start an app trial without a card.
Turning it back on
An owner or an admin, from the locked screen itself. Its Subscribe button opens the same monthly, yearly and fixed-term choice you had at install and takes you to a payment page.
In the short window between a trial running out and the app locking, there is also a Subscribe button on that app's line in the monthly breakdown under Settings, then Billing & Plan. Once the app has locked, its line has left that breakdown, because the breakdown lists what you currently hold. See what your apps are costing you.
The App Marketplace is not a way back. Once a free trial has been spent, installing the app again is refused and the message points you at subscribing. Use the locked screen.
The free trial does not come back, so this is a subscription from the moment you confirm it.
