Osteopaths
Compare local osteopaths and book online in seconds.
Osteopaths take a whole-body approach to musculoskeletal care, using hands-on techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation and stretching to treat back pain, neck pain, headaches and sports injuries. In Australia, osteopathy is a regulated profession: every practising osteopath must be registered with the Osteopathy Board of Australia through AHPRA, having completed an accredited university qualification.
OneBookPlus lets you compare local osteopathy clinics in one place, see real appointment availability and book online in a couple of minutes. Your confirmation and reminders arrive automatically, so you are less likely to miss a session, and rescheduling is handled through the same booking link rather than a phone queue.

List your business, freeHow to choose a good Osteopath
- Check the practitioner's current registration on the public AHPRA register before your first appointment; it is free and takes a minute.
- Look for experience with your specific complaint, whether that is chronic lower back pain, sports injuries, pregnancy-related pain or headaches.
- Ask whether the clinic offers HICAPS on-the-spot private health claiming so you only pay the gap at the desk.
- A good osteopath explains their diagnosis, gives you a treatment plan with an expected number of sessions and includes home exercises.
- Consider practicalities such as parking, wheelchair access and appointment times outside standard work hours if you need them.
- Be wary of anyone recommending open-ended weekly treatment indefinitely; ask how progress will be measured and reviewed.
Questions to ask before you book
Frequently asked questions
Are osteopaths regulated in Australia?
Yes. Osteopaths are registered health practitioners under the national scheme administered by AHPRA and the Osteopathy Board of Australia. They must complete an accredited university program, meet continuing professional development requirements and hold professional indemnity insurance. You can check any osteopath's registration status for free on the public AHPRA register online.
Do I need a referral to see an osteopath?
No referral is needed for a private appointment; you can book directly. A GP referral only matters if you want a Medicare rebate under a Chronic Disease Management plan, or if you are claiming through DVA, workers compensation or a motor accident scheme, where paperwork requirements apply.
Can I claim osteopathy on Medicare or private health?
Private health extras policies commonly include osteopathy, and many clinics process claims on the spot through HICAPS. Medicare does not cover routine visits, but if your GP puts you on a Chronic Disease Management plan you may receive a partial rebate for a limited number of allied health sessions each calendar year. NDIS funding can also apply for eligible participants.
