What is the difference between a registered nurse and an enrolled nurse?
Registered nurses hold a bachelor degree and can assess, plan and manage complex clinical care independently. Enrolled nurses hold a diploma and work under the supervision of a registered nurse. Both are AHPRA-registered. Agencies should match the right level to your needs, since RN hours cost more than EN hours.
Can I get nursing care at home after hospital discharge?
Yes. Many hospitals arrange short-term post-acute or hospital-in-the-home care at no charge, so ask your discharge planner first. If you need more support than the hospital funds, private nursing agencies can start quickly, often within 24 to 48 hours, for wound care, medication support and rehabilitation follow-up.
Is home nursing covered by Medicare or private health insurance?
Medicare does not generally pay for private home nursing, though some GP-coordinated programs and state community services provide nursing free.
