Chiropractors assess and treat problems with the spine, joints and muscles, most commonly lower back pain, neck pain and headaches. People book them after an injury flares up, when desk work leaves them stiff and sore, or for ongoing management of a recurring problem. Appointments typically involve assessment, manual adjustments or mobilisation, and advice on movement and posture.
OneBookPlus makes it easy to compare chiropractors near you, read genuine reviews from other patients, check consultation fees and book an appointment online instantly. Filter by location and availability, see who can fit you in this week, and skip the phone queue entirely.

List your business, freeHow to choose a good Chiropractor
- Chiropractors are AHPRA-registered health practitioners; check their registration and any conditions on the public AHPRA register before booking.
- In Australia they complete a five-year university qualification, so be wary of anyone offering adjustments without AHPRA registration.
- Look for a clear assessment process at the first visit rather than instant treatment; good practitioners examine before they adjust.
- Ask about their approach to care plans; be cautious of long lock-in contracts or pressure to prepay dozens of visits.
- Read reviews for your specific issue, such as sciatica, headaches or sports injuries, not just overall star ratings.
- Check they hold professional indemnity insurance and offer on-the-spot private health fund rebates via HICAPS.
Questions to ask before you book
Frequently asked questions
Are chiropractors regulated in Australia?
Yes. Chiropractors are registered health practitioners regulated by the Chiropractic Board of Australia through AHPRA, the same scheme that covers doctors and physios. They must hold an approved university qualification, carry professional indemnity insurance and meet ongoing training requirements. You can check any chiropractor's registration status, and any conditions on it, free on the AHPRA public register.
Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor?
No referral is needed for private appointments; you can book directly. A GP referral is only required if you want to claim Medicare rebates under a chronic disease management plan, or for DVA and some workers compensation arrangements. If you are claiming through private health extras, no referral is needed, just check chiropractic is included in your cover.
What conditions do chiropractors treat?
Most commonly low back pain, neck pain, headaches arising from the neck, and joint or muscle problems related to posture, work or sport. Evidence is strongest for chiropractic care of low back pain. A good chiropractor will assess whether your problem fits their scope and refer you to a GP or specialist when something needs medical investigation.
